The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – Perth and Kinross Association SCIO

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – Perth and Kinross Association SCIO have been awarded £1,500 to help provide holistic programmes to young people with additional support needs living in poverty and facing negative life destinations without charge.

The group aims to will help maximise life chances and improve long term financial security through education, skills, employment and social inclusion for local young people and their families.  This will in turn provide socio-economic benefits to the local community.

Established in 1991, the Association was set up to advance the mental and physical welfare of young people in Perth & Kinross.  Eight years ago however, they identified there were very few young people with additional support needs (ASN) accessing the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

There were many barriers to their inclusion – socio economic factors, physical and learning challenges and a sense that the Award wasn’t for them.  They made a pledge to bridge that gap, to remove the barriers to achievement, inclusion and empowerment with and for young people with additional support needs.
