The Enchanted Forest opens its 2020 Community Fund for applications

The Enchanted Forest Community Trust, the charitable organisation that runs Scotland’s trailblazing sound and light show The Enchanted Forest, is now accepting applications from local community groups, projects and charities in Pitlochry and the wider Highland Perthshire area for their 2020 Community Fund.

Now in its eighth year, The Enchanted Forest Community Trust set up the Fund to ensure the event provided significant economic benefits to the local community.

Successful applicants will be asked to provide a report to The Enchanted Forest Community Trust on how they have used the money in relation to their request.

BUZZBÒ, THE WORLD’S FIRST HIGHLAND COOSMONAUT, REACHES THE COSMOS AT THE ENCHANTED FOREST 2019

VisitScotland’s 50th anniversary mascot, BuzzBò, will be reaching new heights at The Enchanted Forest’s 2019 Cosmos event.

This year VisitScotland celebrated their anniversary by launching the world’s first Highland Coosmonaut into ‘near space’ wearing a special spacesuit featuring Armstrong tartan, a nod to the first human to land on the moon 50 years ago.

Footage of BuzzBò’s momentous journey was unveiled to the public on the anniversary of the launch of the moon landing mission itself, July 16th, but the Coosmonaut will now revisit the cosmos from the safety of planet earth during his stay at The Enchanted Forest throughout the month of October.

The 2019 show takes its inspiration from the vastness and natural beauty of the skies that sit above the forest. Whilst visitors will be able to enjoy the security and familiarity of their forest surroundings, the show will encourage visitors to sense the awe and wonderment of the looking up to the sky through the tree canopy and be captivated by the cosmos.

New for 2019 is the Geodome, a 7m inflatable projection dome, accommodating approximately 60 people per showing. A completely immersive experience, it gives those within it the impression they are flying through the Cosmos. The whole experience lasts for five minutes.

Before blasting off into the cosmos at The Enchanted Forest, BuzzBò will take in all that Perthshire has to offer with an overnight stay at one of Scotland’s most popular leisure resorts, Crieff Hydro.

The Enchanted Forest opens it’s out of this world 2019 event

Hundreds of visitors immersed themselves in another universe as the trailblazing sound and light show, The Enchanted Forest, launched its much anticipated 2019 event, Cosmos, on Wednesday, October 2nd.

Invited guests were welcomed to the illuminating sound and light event before opening to general public on October 3rd, for its month-long run at Faskally Wood in Pitlochry.

Taking inspiration from the vastness and natural beauty of the skies that sit above the forest, The Enchanted Forest has released 80,000 tickets for this year’s event, with only a few dates still available for last minute bookings.

Whilst visitors will be able to enjoy the security and familiarity of their forest surroundings, the show will encourage visitors to sense the awe and wonderment of looking up to the sky through the tree canopy and be captivated by the cosmos.

New for 2019 is the Geodome, a 7m inflatable projection dome, accommodating approximately 50 people per showing. A completely immersive experience, it gives those within it the impression they are flying through the Cosmos.

Bumblebee Conservation Trust, PKAVS and Guide Dogs Scotland have been confirmed as the official charity partners for 2019. These organisations will not only benefit financially but will be promoted extensively during the run of the event to raise awareness of their good work in the community.

It is estimated that The Enchanted Forest delivers £7.6million economic benefit to Perthshire’s economy per annum, according to a report by Tourism Resources Company in Glasgow. The event grew to 80,000 visitors in 2018, 52% of whom choose to stay overnight in the local area.

The Enchanted Forest Celebrates shortlisting for Scotland’s Tourism Oscars

Less than a week before it opens to the public, The Enchanted Forest is celebrating a shortlisting for the coveted Visit Scotland Thistle Awards for Best Cultural Event or Festival in Central, Fife & Tayside.

The event won the category last year and this year’s shortlisting is the sixth in a row for Scotland’s premier outdoor sound and light event which takes place at Faskally Wood in Pitlochry throughout the month of October.

News of the event’s shortlisting for Best Cultural Event in Central, Fife and Tayside comes just days before the much-anticipated 2019 show – Cosmos – opens to the public on Thursday, October 3.

“The show has grown from the strength to strength and last year’s show was record-breaking, with just over 80,000 visitors in attendance. We’re delighted there is so much interest again this year, making it by far the most popular show to date. ENCHANTED FOREST REACHES FOR THE STARS IN THIS YEAR’S SHOW

Scotland’s pioneering sound and light show, The Enchanted Forest, is reaching for the stars this October with an exciting new installation, the Geodome, a spectacular 360° immersive experience.

The 2019 show, entitled Cosmos, takes its inspiration from the vastness and natural beauty of the skies that sit above the forest. Whilst visitors will be able to enjoy the security and familiarity of their forest surroundings, the show will encourage visitors to sense the awe and wonderment of the looking up to the sky through the tree canopy and be captivated by the cosmos.

It’s in this spirit that The Enchanted Forest is introducing the Geodome. The Geodome is a 7m inflatable projection dome, accommodating approximately 60 people per showing. A completely immersive experience, it gives those within it the impression they are flying through the Cosmos. The whole experience lasts for five minutes.

Bringing this new creative feature to the show this year is Immersive Experiences, a company founded by entrepreneurs with a passion for astronomy. Immersive Experiences is a multi-award-winning provider of learning experiences across the UK’s largest fleet of mobile planetariums, drones, VR and sensory rooms.

Now in its 18 year, The Enchanted Forest prides itself on trailblazing the creative bar in sound and light shows internationally with a changing theme each year and a host of new creative talent and installations. This year, in addition to Immersive Experiences, several companies will be involved in helping the team deliver another outstanding event.

Novak, a specialist in motion design, will once again be lending its expertise to the show and providing video content. EventFX will be providing pyrotechnics expertise, alongside Airstar, a world leader in designing and producing inflatable technologies. Ray Interactive and Bespoke Lighting and Video will also be involved, and Definitive Special Projects will be creating a beautiful laser show.

Set against the stunning natural backdrop of Faskally Wood, organisers The Enchanted Forest Community Trust use of some of the world’s premier creative talents, many of whom are based in Scotland, to produce a world-class show. Zoë Squair has returned as creative producer, alongside Kate Bonney and Simon Hayes as lighting designers, and RJ McConnell, Jon Beales and Rachel Cullen providing sound design and composition for this year’s magical event. This year visitors can expect a dynamic, contemplative walk through the wood unlike anything experienced at The Enchanted Forest before.

The Enchanted Forest partners with Blair Athol Distillery to enhance accessibility for visitors

The Enchanted Forest, Scotland’s premier sound and light show, has joined forces with Blair Athol Distillery to make the award-winning event as accessible as possible for visitors.

For this year’s event, entitled Cosmos, a brand-new Accessibility Bus service has been introduced which may better suit customers who have specific access needs but do not require disabled parking on site.

Accessibility Bus Customers will be able to park at Blair Athol Distillery on the outskirts of Pitlochry where the transfer service will run regularly into the Forest throughout the event’s five-week-run.

As disabled parking is very limited in the forest, the Accessibility Bus offers an alternative option for guests who require a little extra help. The bus will not require people to climb stairs to board the coach and can accommodate a small number of wheelchair and specialist buggy users, subject to availability. Older patrons and families travelling with autistic children who find large crowds more difficult may also look to use the new service.

The event has also teamed up with Mobiloo, a mobile accessible toilet with adult-sized changing bench and hoist, for the second year in a row to further enhance the event’s accessibility credentials.

With over 80,000 people visiting Highland Perthshire annually to experience The Enchanted Forest, organisers are keen to make the event as accessible as possible.

This year’s Enchanted Forest will run from October 3 – November 3, 2019 and tickets are now on sale. Coaches with a low floor and flat, step-free entrance will be running every 30 minutes from the local distillery during the event’s evening performances.

The Enchanted Forest Secures Spot in Lonely Planet’s Ultimate UK Travel Guide

Scotland’s premier sound and light show, The Enchanted Forest, has made it into the very first Lonely Planet Ultimate United Kingdom Travelist.
The guide is the latest compilation of unmissable experiences and hidden gems from Lonely Planet, which ranks the 500 greatest experiences across the Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands to create the definitive UK travel hitlist.

The sell-out show has been captivating audiences since 2002 and attracts 80,000 visitors each year to Loch Faskally in Pitlochry throughout the month of October.

For the 2019 show entitled Cosmos, show producers have taken inspiration from the vastness and natural beauty of the skies that sit above the forest, encouraging visitors to look up and be captivated by the cosmos.

This is the second inclusion for the show in an international guidebook this year, after securing a feature in the latest edition of the award-winning travel guide, DK Eyewitness Travel Guide.

Enchanted Forest donates t-shirts to Mary’s Meals Backpack Project

The Enchanted Forest, Scotland’s premier sound and light and show, has joined forces with Pitlochry High School to donate special backpacks to children receiving Mary’s Meals.

When members of The Enchanted Forest Community Trust heard that a group of pupils were collecting items to fill school bags to be sent to children in Malawi, they were quick to offer special Enchanted Forest t-shirts to be included in the donations.

The team of Primary 5 pupils from Mrs Cardew’s class at the Highland Perthshire school have, with help from Den @ Heartland Kids’ Club Breakfast Supervisor Judith Dingwall, sent a total of 55 complete backpacks to Mary’s Meals Backpack Project.

Each backpack includes notepads, pencils and other stationery, cutlery, a toothbrush and clothing as well as various other essentials to help children get the most out of their lessons at school.

The Enchanted Forest Community Trust has been delighted to have been able to contribute to the project and support the efforts of local children to help children less fortunate get the most out of their schooling.

“It is difficult to imagine not having access to basic school items like such as pencils and paper, so we are proud to have been able to help Mrs Cardew’s Primary 5 class at Pitlochry High School support Mary’s Meals Backpack Project. We hope the backpacks will help the children they reach enjoy their school experiences to the full.”

“We’re so grateful to the children of Pitlochry High School and the Enchanted Forest for supporting The Backpack Project. So many of the children who receive Mary’s Meals in Malawi come to school without the basic tools for learning. Giving the children a backpack full of educational items enables them to get the most out of their education.”

Bumblebee Conservation Trust, PKAVs and Guide Dogs Scotland (Perth & Kinross) have been chosen as the official charity partners for 2019. These organisations will not only benefit financially but will be promoted throughout the award-winning event’s month-long run.

Returning to Highland Perthshire this October, the Enchanted Forest is embarking on its 18th year lighting up the trees and creating magic in Faskally Wood, Pitlochry. Re-inventing itself year-on-year, the theme for this year’s event is still under wraps, but visitors can expect the winning combination of original music and captivating visuals which the Enchanted Forest is renowned for.

Over 80,000 visitors entered the Enchanted Forest for last year’s sold-out show Of The Wild. Bringing an estimated £7 million to the local economy annually, tickets have already been available on pre-sale to previous customers and with tickets due to go on general sale very soon, customers are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.

Enchanted Forest Community Trust makes record number of awards to a raft of worthy projects throughout Highland Perthshire

The Enchanted Forest Community Trust, organisers of the multi-award-winning sound and light show in Pitlochry, has awarded a record £35,672 to over 30 worthy community projects in Highland Perthshire, an increase in awards of almost 100% on the previous year.

This is the sixth consecutive year that such a fund has been available, and the 33 good causes range from supporting Pitlochry in Bloom to support the restoration of the wildlife garden, to replacing the chanters and pipe bags of Edradour Pitlochry and Blair Atholl Pipe Band. Other notable donations include a new sound system and stage curtains for Pitlochry High School, assistance for Dunkeld’s Santa Day to pay for additional entertainers and a contribution towards transport costs for Rannoch Adult Education Association.

The Enchanted Forest Community Trust is able to offer smaller local community groups access to vital funding that they would otherwise find difficult to obtain from other funders many of whom have much higher minimum thresholds for application. With an average award value of £1080 across the 33 projects funded, Pitlochry in Bloom tops the table at £5000 this year with their wildlife garden restoration project.

“2018’s record-breaking show saw more people visiting The Enchanted Forest than ever before. This incredible support means we are able to fund an amazing 33 exciting community events, projects and organisations. We’re delighted that our show helps makes this support possible, and visitors should feel proud that, just by visiting the Enchanted Forest, they have done their bit to give back to the community and benefit the local area.”

Over 80,000 visitors attended last year’s sold-out show Of the Wild with proceeds from the event being distributed through The Enchanted Forest Community Trust to worthy causes in the local area.

The Enchanted Forest’s impact on the local tourism economy is around £7.6 million per annum with around 52% of visitors to the 2018 event choosing to stay overnight in the area on their visit and over 93% citing the event as their main reason for visiting the area.

This year’s Enchanted Forest will run from October 3 to November 3 and tickets will go on sale to the public in June.

The Enchanted Forest delivers £7.6million shot in the arm to Perthshire economy

The Enchanted Forest, Perthshire’s multi award-winning sound and light show, has confirmed today that an independent report demonstrates that the event delivers a £7.66million shot in the arm to Perthshire’s economy.

An independent report conducted by Tourism Resources Company in Glasgow, specialist economic impact consultants, was commissioned in 2018 by The Enchanted Forest Community Trust which operates the event.

The report looks at visitor behaviour and spend activity, as well as the event’s own purchasing power. It concluded that with over 80,000 visitors attending the Autumn spectacle, 52% of whom stay overnight, and a policy to use local suppliers where possible, The Enchanted Forest boosts the local economy by an incredible £7.66 million every year.  

The news has been welcomed by the organisers. Ian Sim, Trustee of The Enchanted Forest commented:

“This has surpassed even our wildest expectations of what the event brings to Highland Perthshire. We had older economic impact studies which were carried out when the event was much smaller as a baseline and, of course, we have always had anecdotal evidence that hotels, B&Bs, restaurants and cafes are busy – but we are simply amazed to learn just how much value the event brings to the local area.”

“This is really pleasing. The Enchanted Forest was originally set up to help build value for tourism businesses, providing visitor footfall during what was known as the “shoulder season” in Highland Perthshire. It used to be very quiet in Pitlochry in October – now we hear from local hotel operators that it’s their busiest month of the year.”

Just over 80,000 visitors attended the 2018 sold-out show, a 9% increase on the previous record-breaking year. International visitor numbers have jumped from around 0.97% of audience share in 2014 to 2.97% of audience share in 2018, and with more than 85% citing the event as a reason for travelling to Scotland, from a selection of 28 different countries.

The report suggests that the most popular hotels for visitors are the Fisher’s Hotel, Scotland’s Hotel and the Atholl Palace, while those eating locally are favouring Mackay’s Pub, Victoria’s and The Old Mill Inn. Not surprisingly for a family event, the most popular retailers were sweetie shops!

The growth in the profile of the event has netted it a finalist’s place in the national final of the Visit Scotland Thistle Awards for Best Cultural Event or Festival. The winners will be announced this Thursday night at a glittering black-tie ceremony in Edinburgh’s International Conference Centre.
