The Horizon Lunch club
The Horizon Lunch Club in Aberfeldy exists to support those over 70 years old by providing affordable meals and friendship in a safe environment.
Running for 16 years, the club meets twice a week on a Tuesday and Wednesday in Aberfeldy town hall. The club has approximately 24 members attending, all of whom are offered a nutritious home cooked meal. Most members are over 75, with the oldest 96 and the youngest 74. Members have a three-course lunch and sometimes a little dram if it’s a birthday or anniversary. After their lunch they have a game of bingo or a sing song. The club costs about £40,000 per year to run and the grant from the Enchanted Forest Community Fund, together with a grant from the Gannochy Trust, has enabled the lunches to be free from September 2023. Usually there is £5 charge per head to cover costs.
Anne Duff, co-ordinates the club and says: “I’ve got the best job in the world! You get to listen to members life stories and what interesting lives they’ve had. They are just so appreciative of everything you do, so, it’s just a brilliant job, I love it. It’s really good to see them so happy and interacting with each other, they are all old friends and they’ve sort of lost contact because they can’t get out and about. They all come and have a good gossip and catch up. We get great feedback from it all and we are very well supported in the town and very well known.
