Enchanted Forest Organisers Expect Sell Out Show as 2008 Theme
Launches them into Space
Big Tree Country, the organisers of
Scotland’s premier sound
and light show, The Enchanted Forest, have announced they expect
this year’s event to attract over 20,000 visitors, setting
a new record for The Enchanted Forest that is now in its seventh
successful year.
The theme for this year’s show, which takes place between
17th October and 2nd November at Faskally Wood near Pitlochry,
is “A Journey Through Space”.
During the event, Faskally Wood, which is managed by Forestry
Commission Scotland, will be transformed into an astronomical playground
which marks an appropriate trailer for the approaching celebrations
of International Year of Astronomy in 2009, celebrating 400 years
since Galileo first looked into a telescope.
Visitors will be met in Pitlochry’s main street by their “shuttle” bus
which will take them to the launch pad at Faskally Wood. Entering
the EFSA (Enchanted Forest Space Agency) for the first time, visitors
will undergo a brief astronaut training session before watching
countdown commence on the main show.
After lift off, visitors have an opportunity to explore their
new world within the forest, making their way around the paved
walk, exploring new planet landscapes, bridging the void and encountering
some of our best known extra terrestrials, before returning to
Earth. All areas of Faskally Wood will be lit for effect and the
experience is bound to be truly out of this world.
Hamish Murray, chair of the steering
group for the Enchanted Forest 2008 commented, “This year’s theme has everyone very
excited. We’ve really built upon the experience and successes
of past years and we’ve come up with something that is innovative
and speaks to people of all ages.”
“We also have a dedicated play area for kids at ET Wood
which pays homage to the extra-terrestrials we all know and love
from television and film. Whether your 5 or 55, this year’s
theme is bound to get you smiling!” he concluded.
Last year over 17,000 people attended The Enchanted Forest which
is also supported by the local Pitlochry Autumn Festival, making
it a truly family event.
The shuttle departure point in Pitlochry is a simply two minute
walk from Pitlochry Railway Station and organisers are urging people
to make best use of the public transport links available.
